History of The Living Vine

The Living Vine was founded by a group of Christians who had a dream of sheltering young women in crisis pregnancies as an alternative to abortion. The Living Vine began as an interdenominational ministry predominately consisting of Baptists, Methodists, Episcopalians, Presbyterians and Independent Christians.

In the months that followed the initial renovation date, in January 1996, God used many people, churches and organizations to accomplish His plan. Countless hours of hard work and sacrifice went into converting an abandoned and extremely run down, former Florence Crittendon Home into The Living Vine. Sunday School classes and groups at various churches in the area sponsored a room to decorate or pitched in to completely rebuild the kitchen, or to convert the old birthing room into a school. The old, neglected brick building was converted from an institution into a beautiful home.

On September 1st, 1996, The Living Vine opened for residents. The Living Vine is approximately 10,000 square feet with five very large resident bedrooms and three staff bedrooms/suites, with room enough to house twelve residents and six staff members.

Since its opening, The Living Vine has been home to over 200 residents. Residents are offered the following classes: Bible studies, GED coursework, “Baby Think It Over” parenting skills, financial budgeting, nutrition program, junior and senior high school classes, childbirth education, sewing, Basic Life Principles and Anger Resolution.

The Living Vine is a Georgia State licensed maternity home. It is a 501©3 agency. The Living Vine is supported by individuals, churches, civic organizations and grants. Because our ministry focuses on teaching Christ to our women in crisis pregnancies, The Living Vine has chosen to accept no monies that would limit our ability to teach our residents the Bible.
