| The Living Vine offers a sabbatical for expecting mothers. While in our program, the residents focus on their relationship with Christ while sequestering from the world. The week day is designed so that daytime hours are structured, as a school or business would be, but night is purposely planned to be more family oriented. Some nights are free for residents to watch a movie or play board games; other nights are busy with Bible studies and church services. The daily schedule is intensive due to the limited time of stay available during a pregnancy. Residents spend 15 hours a week in the home's Learning Center, focusing on spiritual growth and intimacy with God. In addition to the 15 hours per week of spiritual growth, residents work a minimum of 10 or more hours with a state certified teacher who is on staff to assist them with their academic goals. Also, retired teachers work weekly with residents who need further tutoring. The struggle to simply survive has often kept many of our residents from maintaining their grade level in school. Our program can help eliminate some of those struggles allowing residents time to heal and to learn. Students have the benefit of one-on-one attention with each receiving an individual program of study, tailored to her special needs or circumstances. Many, for the first time, are able to catch up to their appropriate grade level. Courses offered fall into one of three categories: 1. Learning Center • Spiritual Growth and Development • Prayer Counseling 2. Home School • Continuation of current grade level • Completion of High School • GED • Financial Budgeting Course using Larry Burkett’s teen study materials • Sewing Course by a retired professional seamstress • Childbirth Classes by an obstetrics nurse • Private Tutors • Other Educational Options including private Christian High School Programs or college level Distance Learning Programs • Baby Think it Over/Parenting with computerized babies - We are extremely proud of our “Baby Think It Over Program.” The course enhances their basic parenting skills by providing hands-on experience with computerized babies. Each resident is required to care for a computerized baby during this course. The teacher programs the baby to cry on demand, just the way a newborn does, around the clock. After the mom is wakened during the night several times to feed and change the “infant,” while still being required to rise early for school, she begins to gain a realistic taste of parenting. 3. Miscellaneous • Family Counseling • Nutrition program • Adoption referrals and Counseling • Referrals to Mother & Baby Homes • Gary Smalley’s Loving Relationship • Outside Bible Studies • Anger Resolution |
